Are you getting bored playing competitive CSGO all the time?
Perhaps you want to play on a Surf or Bhop server like the gamers you have seen on Youtube?
Or maybe your friend just started their own CSGO server and they want you to join.
Whatever the reason, in this post I'll show you 4 methods on how you can join a CSGO server.
Don't worry, it's not as hard as you think!
Let's get started!
The in-game community server browser is the main place you will go to join a custom or modded CS:GO server.
Here you will find many servers with different game settings. By default, it is sorted by ping but you can easily sort by player count too.
The biggest issue with the server browser is that there are a lot of spam servers so it might take you a while to find the right CS:GO server for you.
Here are some game modes that are usually on the community browser and you can search for
KZ - Climb
ZE - Zombie escape
Bhop - Bunnyhop
Surf - Surf
Using the server window is really simple.
On the home page, click the play button on the left side.
On the top left, there will be a drop-down menu that says "Official Matchmaking", click it.
Select the last option "Community Server Browser".
After you have clicked it, a window should open showing a bunch of server names. If nothing shows up check the filters at the bottom of the window and click refresh.
If you want to search for a specific server, then look for the "Tags" section at the bottom of the screen. Make sure it is set to Include and type your tags as shown above. Try and stick to a simple word such as ghostcap, surf, ze etc.
Once you find the server you want to join, simply double-click.
This is by far the easiest way you can start connecting to modded servers. However, if you have the IP address then things are a little different.
You can actually click your Favorites tab and then "ADD A SERVER". While this is one way of connecting using an IP, it's the slowest way to connect using an IP address.
If you have an IP address (it looks something like this 15.235.181.104:27015) then you can actually connect directly to it. This is great if you don't want to connect through the browser.
We actually have a handy video on this method you can watch here.
This method means we do need to allow the developer console. That way we can type in connects to connect to the IP and Port.
This is the preferred method for most people who play on modded servers.
This is a very easy way to connect to a server as you don't need to dig through 10,000 game servers.
A direct link is a hotlink that you can simply click to instantly join a CS:GO server. You will often see these on Discord and gaming community websites.
They look like this: steam://connect/zombies.ghostcap.com:27015
You don't need to launch the game or anything first. This will automatically start Steam, find the IP address and location then connect you to the server.
There are bugs with this method such as the black screen bug, so this is only meant for the laziest of gamers.
Joining a CSGO community server through the Steam client is also possible however this is the last resort. This is by far the slowest way to join a server's IP address.
By now you should know everything you need to know about joining a CS:GO server. Compared to casual and matchmaking, community servers are the best way to make friends.
Although it might be difficult to navigate when you're first connecting, after you have joined a few game servers and get familiar with the console, everything will be much easier.
