Microphone problems in Counter-Strike 2 can be frustrating, especially when communication is key to winning. Whether you're dealing with a muted mic or poor sound quality, this guide will help you resolve these issues quickly and get back to the game.
This guide is broken up into 2 parts. One for clients/players and another for community server owners who run CS2 server hosting. Currently, there are some bugs with private CS2 servers that need fixes applied to them.
Note: If your audio issues are only on community servers after a map change and competitive works fine, then your issues are server-related. Please send them this guide and refer to the fix for server owners.
Additionally, if you're on a private server, it's possible you've been "comms banned" from their server.
How To Fix CS2 Mic Not Working For Players
Follow these actionable steps to ensure your mic is working perfectly while playing CS2. This list is in order of the steps you should take.
-
Make sure your mic is plugged in (duh!).
-
If you have a physical volume adjuster, make sure it's turned up.
-
On the bottom right-hand side of your taskbar, click the sound icon and make sure the volume is turned up.
-
Right-click the sound icon, select "Sounds," go to the "Recording" tab, and set your microphone as the default input device.
-
Launch CS2 and go to Settings, then Audio and set audio to default device. You can try other devices if you wish, but we set it as the Windows default in the previous step.
-
Scroll down to Enable Voice and make sure it's turned on.
If, after all of the above, your sound still isn't working, try testing in another application such as Discord to make sure the issue is isolated to CS2.
If the issue persists outside CS2, you will need to look into your headset software or audio drivers.
How To Fix CS2 Mic Not Working For Server Owners
If you're a server owner and your players are having issues with the microphone not working after the map changes, this is because of a bug with CS2. The "fix" if your server is 100% vanilla is the player will need to restart their game.
However, if you're using a modded CS2 server, there is a handy plugin you can download called CS2VoiceFix. If you want to install plugins on your CS2 server, check out our CS2 plugins list for more options.
