Learn how to adjust the difficulty settings on your Enshrouded server to customize the challenge level for your players.

Difficulty Presets

Enshrouded includes five difficulty presets that allow you to quickly adjust how challenging the game is. You can configure these settings directly from our game panel.

  1. Log in to the GhostCap panel and stop your Enshrouded server.
  2. In the sidebar, go to Startup Parameters.
  3. Find the Difficulty setting and change it to the desired difficulty.
  4. Start your server.

Here are the available difficulty presets and what each one does:

  • Default - Configures all values to their default settings. This is how Enshrouded was originally balanced and is recommended for first-time players.
  • Relaxed - Reduces enemy spawns and provides more resources and loot. Perfect for players who want to focus on base building and casual exploration.
  • Hard - Increases enemy spawns and makes them more aggressive, providing a more challenging combat experience.
  • Survival - Designed for players seeking a hardcore experience with additional survival mechanics and more aggressive enemies.
  • Custom - Allows you to fine-tune individual game settings. You must select this preset if you manually edit your enshrouded_server.json file.

To customize individual game settings beyond the presets, you'll need to edit the enshrouded_server.json file and set Difficulty to Custom in our game panel. Check out our guide on custom difficulty settings for more details.
