How To Optimize Your Enshrouded Server Performance

Learn how to optimize your Enshrouded server for better performance.

Here's how to optimize your Enshrouded server for better performance.

If you're seeing Server Overloaded or High Server Load messages in-game, this is a known issue that can happen. The official Enshrouded server software can have performance issues regardless of your server hardware, however, the game developers are actively working to improve server performance with positive results after recent updates.

Daily Restarts

By default, we include a configurable daily restart schedule for optimization purposes. This keeps your resource usage under control while ensuring your server has a fresh load once every 24 hours. Making restarts more frequent can provide even better results for Enshrouded.

To adjust your schedule, check out our schedules guide.

Check Resource Usage

If your server is experiencing performance issues, check your resource usage in the GhostCap Panel.

If CPU usage is constantly high (~80% or above), consider upgrading your CPU or restarting your server. Check out our upgrade server guide for more details.

Keep Players Together

Certain areas such as the Hollow Halls are known to be extra hard on performance. Players being spread out across the map also slows down a server over time.

Encourage players to stay closer together when possible to reduce the server load. This is one of the most important optimizations for high player count servers and larger communities.

Reduce Enemy Spawn Rates

Reducing enemy spawn rates can help with performance. This requires using Custom difficulty settings.

  1. Access the GhostCap Panel and Stop your Enshrouded server.
  2. In the sidebar, go to Server Options.
  3. Find the Difficulty setting and change it to Custom.
  4. Go to File Manager and open the file enshrouded_server.json.
  5. Find randomSpawnerAmount under gameSettings and change it to "Few".
  6. Click Save and start your server.
