Hytale Server Troubleshooting Guide

Common Hytale server issues and how to fix them.

Here are common Hytale server issues and how to fix them.

Failed to Connect to Server

Common error messages:

  • "Failed to Connect to Server. The host may be offline or behind a strict firewall"
  • "Could not connect to any available address"
  • "An unexpected error occurred"
  • I18nModule.getMessages (I18nModule.java
    )

Change Your System Language (I18nModule Fix)

The most common cause of the I18nModule.getMessages error is a language or locale mismatch on your system.

Windows:

  1. Open Settings > Time & Language > Language & region.
  2. Set your Windows display language to English (United States).
  3. Under Regional format, select English (United States).
  4. Restart Hytale completely.

Mac:

  1. Open System Settings > General > Language & Region.
  2. Set Primary language to English.
  3. Set Region to United States.
  4. Restart Hytale.

Disable Your Firewall

If the error mentions "strict firewall," your Windows Firewall or antivirus might be blocking the connection.

  1. Search for Windows Defender Firewall in the Start menu.
  2. Click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
  3. Select Turn off Windows Defender Firewall for both Private and Public networks.
  4. Try connecting to the server again.

If this fixes the issue, add Hytale as an exception rather than leaving your firewall disabled:

  1. Go back to Windows Defender Firewall.
  2. Click Allow an app through firewall.
  3. Click Allow another app and browse to your Hytale installation.
  4. Make sure both Private and Public are checked.
  5. Turn your firewall back on.

Sync Your System Clock

An incorrect system time can cause authentication failures when connecting to servers.

Windows:

  1. Right-click the clock in your taskbar.
  2. Select Adjust date/time.
  3. Enable Set time automatically.
  4. Click Sync now.

Mac:

  1. Open System Settings > General > Date & Time.
  2. Enable Set date and time automatically.

Check Your IP Address and Port

Double-check you're using the correct connection details:

  • Confirm the IP address with the server host
  • Include the port number if it's not the default
  • Check for any typos

Verify the Server Is Online

Before troubleshooting further, make sure the server is actually running:

  • Check the GhostCap Panel to verify it's online
  • Check for error messages in the server console

Slow Connection / World Not Loading

Symptoms:

  • Your internet is stable (YouTube works fine)
  • Singleplayer loads normally
  • Server connection is very slow or world won't load
  • Friends can see you move but you can't do anything
  • You're on Windows

Cause: Some Intel & Realtek network drivers have issues with QUIC, the modern protocol Hytale uses. This affects both Wi-Fi and Ethernet.

Confirm the issue: Connect an Ethernet USB dongle. If that fixes it, follow the solutions below.

Access Network Settings

  1. Open Start Menu and type View network connections.
  2. Select the Control Panel link.
  3. Right-click your network connection and select Properties.
  4. Click Configure.
  5. Go to the Advanced tab.

Try each solution below. Test after each one - you may not need all of them.

Solution 1: Disable Priority & VLAN

  1. Find Priority & VLAN in the list.
  2. Set it to Priority & VLAN Disabled.
  3. Click Ok and wait for your connection to restore.
  4. Try connecting to your server.

Solution 2: Disable Segment Coalescing

  1. Find Recv. Segment Coalescing (IPv4) and set to Disabled.
  2. Find Recv. Segment Coalescing (IPv6) and set to Disabled.
  3. Click Ok and wait for your connection to restore.
  4. Try connecting to your server.

Solution 3: Disable Power Saving Features

  1. Set the following to Disabled:
    • Advanced EEE
    • ARP Offload
    • Energy-Efficient Ethernet
    • Flow Control
    • Green Ethernet
  2. Click Ok and wait for your connection to restore.
  3. Try connecting to your server.

Solution 4: Full Network Reset

Caution

This is invasive and may be difficult to reverse without reinstalling drivers.
