Installing individual mods allows you to customize your Minecraft server with specific features and content. Before proceeding, ensure your server runs a compatible edition and version for your desired mods.
Follow this guide after confirming your server's compatibility. Check our version changing guide if you need to switch editions first.
Installing Mods Manually
Critical Requirements
Your Minecraft server must run the correct edition and version that matches your mods. For example, most mods require Forge rather than Vanilla Minecraft. Attempting to run mods on incompatible editions will not work.
Additionally, some mods are not compatible with dedicated servers and only function in single-player environments. We strongly recommend installing a few mods at a time and testing thoroughly to ensure stable operation.
Installation Steps
- Log into your GhostCap panel and stop your Minecraft server
- Navigate to the Files section
- Open the mods folder within your server directory
- Upload your
mod.jar
files to this folder- For multiple or large files, use SFTP for faster, more reliable transfers
- Start your server to load the new mods
Testing and Compatibility
After installation, monitor your server's startup logs for any error messages or compatibility issues. Test each mod's functionality before adding additional ones to isolate potential conflicts.
Remember that both your server and connecting players need compatible mod versions installed locally to join modded servers successfully.
