In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of uploading an existing world and player save file to your Palworld server.

You may also refer to this guide on how to upload files to your game server.

Danger

You cannot transfer Xbox Console or PS5 saves from the cloud to a dedicated server. Saves must come from a PC or pre-existing server.

Transfer From Another Palworld Server Provider

If you already have a Palworld server with another provider, then this is how you migrate your existing save to GhostCap.

  1. On your previous server, navigate to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ and backup the folder with random numbers and letters.
  2. Log in to the GhostCap Panel and stop your Palworld server.
  3. Connect to your server with SFTP.
  4. Navigate to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ and delete the default save folder.
  5. Using SFTP, upload your existing save folder and copy the folder ID/name.
  6. Navigate to Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini and look for the line that starts with DedicatedServerName=.
  7. Replace the ID/name with your existing folder name.
  8. Start your server.

Transfer From A Palworld Steam Co-op Save

If you've been hosting Palworld locally on your PC, then follow this guide. This is only for Steam users.

Caution

If you're moving from a local Co-op save file, the host will have to start fresh. The saved data only applies to the externally connected players.

The only way to transfer your host character is to use 3rd party save modification tools.

  1. Press Windows Key + R and paste this:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames

  1. Copy your desired save folder, for example 84B5E2264EC387DEDB43179D666031A1.

Danger

Any save modifications could possibly bring unintended consequences. Make a backup and do this at your own risk!

Please keep in mind that these tools may not function correctly after a Palworld update. Check when Palworld Save Tools was last updated before proceeding.

Unlike Steam, migrating PC Game Pass Co-op saves will require additional steps and specific tools to convert your map data so all of your buildings can be loaded. Here's the easiest way to do it.

Required Tools

Install these tools before proceeding:

Palworld Save Tools

After downloading and extracting Palworld Save Tools, open PalworldSaveTools.exe in its extracted folder.

  1. Choose Convert Gamepass <--> Steam.
  2. Select the save you wish to convert. For PC Game Pass Save Folder, enter this path into the file explorer search bar:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\PocketpairInc.Palworld_ad4psfrxyesvt\SystemAppData\wgs\

  1. If you don't own Palworld on Steam, select any file path for Steam Save Folder.
  2. Select your save from the dropdown, and click Convert. If you have multiple saves, we detail how to find your latest below.
  3. Find your converted save in the XGP_converted_saves folder of Palworld Save Tools.
  4. Log in to the GhostCap Panel and Stop your Palworld server.
  5. Using SFTP, upload your converted save folder to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ and copy the folder ID/name.
  6. Navigate to Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini and look for the line that starts with DedicatedServerName=.
  7. Replace the ID/name with your existing folder name.
  8. Start your server.
Tip

After uploading your save, you may want to transfer your Steam or PC Game Pass Co-op host character data to your newly created server character. This requires additional steps using third-party tools.

Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues you may encounter, and how to resolve them.

No Map Data

Not having map data means the steps relating to GameUserSettings.ini were overlooked, or this data has been deleted from your local game client, the steps for GameUserSettings.ini are the following:

  1. Log in to the GhostCap Panel and Stop your Palworld server.
  2. Go to File Manager.
  3. Copy the name of your existing save folder uploaded to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/, for example 84B5E2264EC387DEDB43179D666031A1.
  4. Navigate to Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini and look for the line that starts with DedicatedServerName=.
  5. Replace the ID/name with your existing folder name.
  6. Start your server.

Locating Your PC Game Pass Save (Optional)

This is optional, follow these steps if you have multiple saves and don't know which save file to convert using Palworld Save Tools.

  1. Load into your world in Palworld.
  2. Save and exit Palworld.
  3. Press Windows Key + R and paste this:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\PocketpairInc.Palworld_ad4psfrxyesvt\SystemAppData\wgs\

  1. Open the folder with the random numbers, there you'll see even more folders with random names.
  2. Sort by date modified. The most recently modified folder is the correct save file name to convert.
Tip

Ensure showing hidden folders is enabled under View > Show > Hidden Items.
