How To Change The Version Of Your Project Zomboid Server

Learn how to change the version of your Project Zomboid server using Steam beta branches.

This guide covers how to change the version of your Project Zomboid server using Steam beta branches.

When changing server versions, you must also change your Project Zomboid game version to match the version of your server.

Danger

Changing versions requires a fresh installation. This will remove all server progress including worlds, saves, and configurations. Features from experimental versions are not expected to be supported on shared hosting as this is only a testing ground for the game developers. We officially only support the main, public branch of the game.

Changing Steam Beta Version

  1. Access the GhostCap Panel and Stop your server.
  2. In the sidebar, go to File Manager.
  3. Delete ALL files and folders to ensure a clean installation.
  4. In the sidebar, go to Server Options.
  5. Edit Steam Beta Branch with the branch name you want to use.
  6. Go to Advanced > Server Actions.
  7. Click Reinstall Server and wait for the install to finish.

You can find the available beta branches on the Project Zomboid SteamDB page. The latest version is public.
