How To Connect To Your Project Zomboid Server

Learn how to connect to your Project Zomboid server using in-game favorites or Steam browser.

This guide covers how to join your Project Zomboid server.

Favoriting Your Server In-Game (Recommended)

This is the recommended method to use when connecting to your Project Zomboid server.

  1. Access the GhostCap Panel and copy your Server IP address from the sidebar.
  2. Open Project Zomboid, in the main menu select Multiplayer > Favorites, then click Add Server.
  3. Enter a Server name, paste your Server IP address into the IP/Domain field and your Port into the Port field. They should look like this:
    • IP/Domain: YourIP (ex. 111.111.111.111)
    • Port: YourPort (ex. 16261)
  4. Click Save, then click Add new account to create a character.
  5. Once complete, click Connect on your character.

Using Steam Browser Favorites

This is how to connect through the Steam browser.

  1. Access the GhostCap Panel and copy your Server IP address from the sidebar.
  2. Open Steam and at the top click View > Game Servers.
  3. Click Favorites and select Project Zomboid as the game.
  4. Click the Plus (+) icon and paste your Server IP address.
  5. After selecting your server, click Connect and enter your server password if applicable.
  6. Once in-game enter a Username and Password, then join your server.
Tip

If you're having trouble joining your server once in-game, try enabling Use Steam Relay.

Troubleshooting

I Can't Add My Server To In-Game Favorites

Double-check that you've entered all of the information correctly. Remember your Port must be separated from the IP/Domain field, following this example:

  • IP/Domain: ServerIP (ex. 111.111.111.111)
  • Port: YourPort (ex. 16261)

Here are the required fields, ensure that they all have information entered:

  • Server name
  • IP/Domain
  • Port
  • Server password (if applicable)
