At GhostCap, we provide you with 5GB of cloud storage to backup your game server. This backs up the most important parts of your server such as save files, configurations, plugins, and more (specific files vary by game).
Note: We primarily back up critical save game and configuration files to reduce unnecessary server load. To see what's included, create and download a backup to your PC. If you need all files, consider setting up your own backup solution using SFTP and a service like Multcloud.
Creating a Backup
Here's how to create a backup of your server. Note that your server will be temporarily stopped during the backup process.
- Load the GhostCap Game Panel and select your server.

Management > Backups

Create
button. - Give your backup a name and click

Important: All backups are deleted once your service is cancelled!
The backup process will begin immediately. Your server will be shut down until the backup completes to ensure data consistency.
Pro Tip: You can automate backups using our Schedules feature.
Restoring a Backup
Restoring from a backup is useful if you've accidentally modified configs or save files and need to revert changes. Note that restoring won't fix server crashes unless the crash is related to the backed-up files.
- Load the GhostCap Game Panel and select your server.
- In the left-hand menu, click
Management > Backups
. - Find the backup you want to restore and click
Deploy
.
Downloading a Backup

- Load the GhostCap Game Panel and select your server.
- In the left-hand menu, click
Management > Backups
. - Find the backup you want and click
Download
.
Locking a Backup
For important server states you want to preserve, you can lock backups to prevent accidental deletion.
- Load the GhostCap Game Panel and select your server.
- In the left-hand menu, click
Management > Backups
. - Find the backup you want to protect and click
Lock
.
Locked backups require additional confirmation steps before deletion, providing extra protection for critical saves.
Best Practices
- Regular Backups: Schedule automatic backups daily or weekly depending on server activity
- Pre-Update Backups: Always create a backup before major updates or changes
- Rotation Policy: Delete old backups regularly to stay within your 5GB limit
- Lock Important States: Lock backups before major events or milestones
- Local Copies: Download backups periodically for additional safety
Storage Management
With 5GB of backup storage, you can typically store:

- 50+ smaller game server backups
- Hundreds of config-only backups
Monitor your backup storage usage in the Backups section and delete old backups as needed.
