Yes, Minecraft Dungeons is fully cross-platform. Players on PC, Xbox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch can all play together in 4-player online co-op. Crossplay arrived in the free Cross-Platform update (version 1.6.0.0) in November 2020 and still works in 2026 — all you need is a free Microsoft account.
Mojang stopped releasing new content for Minecraft Dungeons in 2023, but the official multiplayer servers remain online and the game is still sold on every store. If you are after crossplay in the main game instead, see our guide on is Minecraft cross-platform.
How to Play Minecraft Dungeons Cross-Platform
Crossplay is tied to your Microsoft account rather than your console's friends list. Here is how to set it up on any platform:
-
Create or sign in to a Microsoft account. If you don't have one, create a free account on the Microsoft website.
-
Link the account to Minecraft Dungeons. On the game's main menu, choose the sign-in option and follow the prompts. PlayStation and Switch players see this prompt the first time they open the online menu.
-
Add friends with their Microsoft Gamertag. Open the Friends tab in the main menu and enter your friend's Gamertag to send a request. Console usernames (PSN IDs, Switch friend codes) are not used for crossplay.
-
Invite or join. Once the request is accepted, invite friends to your game or join theirs from the Friends tab. Cross-platform sessions support up to four players.
Everyone must be on the same game version, so check for updates on your platform before playing. Since the game no longer receives patches, version mismatches are rare in 2026.
Which Platforms Can Play Together?
Every platform combination works. There are no excluded pairings like some other games have:
| Platform Combo | Crossplay Support |
|---|---|
| PC ↔ Xbox One / Series X|S | Yes |
| PC ↔ PS4 / PS5 | Yes |
| PC ↔ Nintendo Switch | Yes |
| Xbox ↔ PlayStation | Yes |
| Xbox ↔ Nintendo Switch | Yes |
| PlayStation ↔ Nintendo Switch | Yes |
On PC, crossplay works whether you bought the game on Steam, the Microsoft Store, or through the Minecraft Launcher, because all versions sign in through the same Microsoft account. Note that crossplay only applies to online co-op — local couch co-op is limited to players on the same machine.
Does Minecraft Dungeons Have Cross-Progression?
Partially, yes. Mojang added cloud saves in May 2021, letting you carry heroes between PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch on the same Microsoft account. Open the Switch Heroes menu, select Upload to push a hero to the cloud, then Download on the other platform to keep playing.
There are two important limits. Syncing is manual — you must upload before quitting and download before playing on the other device, with up to 20 cloud slots available. And purchases never transfer: you need to buy the base game, DLC, and Season Pass separately on each platform, even though your hero's levels and gear carry over.
Is Minecraft Dungeons Still Supported in 2026?
Mojang announced in September 2023 that Minecraft Dungeons would receive no further content, making version 1.17 (November 2022) the final update. The studio shifted its focus after the game passed 25 million players.
The game is far from dead, though. It is still purchasable on every store, online multiplayer and crossplay still function, and cloud saves remain active in 2026. There is simply no new DLC or seasonal content being added.
Where to Buy Minecraft Dungeons
- PC: Available on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and the Minecraft Launcher. It is also included with PC Game Pass.
- Xbox: Available for Xbox One and Series X|S on the Xbox Store and with Game Pass.
- PlayStation: Available for PS4 and PS5 (via backward compatibility) on the PlayStation Store.
- Nintendo Switch: Available on the Nintendo eShop.
Wherever you buy it, link the same Microsoft account on each platform to use crossplay and cloud saves.
Final Verdict
Minecraft Dungeons has some of the cleanest crossplay of any co-op game: every platform plays together, setup takes minutes, and cloud saves cover cross-progression for everything except purchases. Even with content updates finished, it remains an easy game to squad up in across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.
