As we all know, Counter Strike 2 was released and replaced CSGO. However, Valve has now released CSGO as a standalone game on Steam, so you can play it alongside CS2. You can join community servers including Surf, Bhop, Zombies and more. If you’re looking to host your own CS2 server, check out our guide to CS2 server hosting.
In this post, I’ll show you how to get CSGO installed and join community servers.
How to Install CSGO
CSGO is now available as a standalone game on Steam. You no longer need to use the csgo_legacy beta branch or any workarounds.
-
Open Steam: Launch the Steam application on your computer.
-
Go to the CSGO Store Page: Visit the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Steam page.
-
Install the Game: Click install and allow Steam to download the necessary files.
-
Launch CSGO: Once installed, launch Counter-Strike: Global Offensive from your Library.
How to Find CSGO Servers
You can very easily join community servers by either pressing Shift+Tab while in game and clicking the ”Game Servers” button, or by pressing ”View” in the Steam client and clicking ”Game Servers” in the dropdown.
What Servers Can You Join?
As all the Valve servers have been ported to CS2, you won’t be able to play matchmaking. However, you can still join community servers.
If you previously joined servers that were running on the old csgo_legacy beta branch, the server owner will need to update their csgo/steam.inf file and change the AppID from 730 to 4465480 before you can join, as the AppID has changed. This is something the server operator needs to do, not the player.

Getting CSGO is now easier than ever since Valve released it as a standalone game. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, you can install it directly from Steam and start playing on community servers right away. Happy gaming!
