How to Change Your Vintage Story Server Version

Changing your Vintage Story server version or switching between release branches allows you to access older versions or test upcoming features. This guide covers everything you need to know about managing your server version.

Whether you're rolling back to a previous version or experimenting with pre-release builds, follow this guide to safely manage your server version.

Change Release Branch

1. Access the GhostCap Panel and Stop your Vintage Story server.
2. In the sidebar, navigate to Server Options.
3. Find the Release branch setting.
4. Select your desired branch:
   • stable - The latest stable release
   • unstable - Pre-release builds
   • pre - Experimental builds
5. In the sidebar, go to Advanced > Server Actions and click Reinstall Server. In the Reinstall Server? window, enable Backup Before Reinstall and, for a clean installation, optionally enable Wipe All Files, then click Yes, Reinstall Server.

Change Specific Version

A community-maintained list of Vintage Story versions can be found here. Set Release branch to either stable or unstable depending on which branch the version you want belongs to.

1. Access the GhostCap Panel and select your Vintage Story server.
2. In the sidebar, navigate to Server Options.
3. Find the Release version setting.
4. Change the value from latest to your desired version number (e.g., 1.18.15).
5. Find the Release branch setting and make sure it is set to stable or unstable, matching the branch your chosen version was released on.
6. In the sidebar, go to Advanced > Server Actions and click Reinstall Server. In the Reinstall Server? window, enable Backup Before Reinstall and, for a clean installation, optionally enable Wipe All Files, then click Yes, Reinstall Server.
