Changing your Vintage Story server version or switching between release branches allows you to access older versions or test upcoming features. This guide covers everything you need to know about managing your server version.
Whether you're rolling back to a previous version or experimenting with pre-release builds, follow this guide to safely manage your server version.
Always back up your world save before changing versions! Experimental and pre-release versions are intended for testing purposes only. GhostCap officially supports the stable release branch. Using unstable or experimental branches may result in unexpected behavior or compatibility issues.
Change Release Branch
- Access the GhostCap Panel and stop your Vintage Story server.
- In the sidebar, navigate to
Startup Parameters. - Find the
Release branchsetting. - Select your desired branch:
stable- The latest stable releaseunstable- Pre-release buildspre- Experimental builds
- In the sidebar, go to
Configuration>Server Actionsand clickReinstall Server.
Consider deleting all files and folders in File Manager for a clean installation.
Change Specific Version
A community-maintained list of Vintage Story versions can be found here. Make sure Release branch is set to stable to select these versions.
- Access the GhostCap Panel and select your Vintage Story server.
- In the sidebar, navigate to
Startup Parameters. - Find the
Release versionsetting. - Change the value from
latestto your desired version number (e.g.,1.18.15). - In the sidebar, go to
Configuration>Server Actionsand clickReinstall Server.
Consider deleting all files and folders in File Manager for a clean installation.
When changing to a specific version, keep Release branch set to stable. When changing branches, keep Release version set to latest. Only modify both settings together if you can verify the specific version exists for that branch.
