How to Reset Your Game Server

Wipe your GhostCap game server and reinstall it to start fresh with a new save, with a backup taken first.

By the GhostCap teamUpdated

Here is how to reset your server so it starts completely fresh with a new save. This is useful when you've made a mistake that can't be undone, or a world is broken beyond repair.

The steps are the same for every game we host, including 7 Days to Die, Abiotic Factor, American Truck Simulator, Conan Exiles, Enshrouded, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Factorio, Hytale, Necesse, Palworld, Project Zomboid, Satisfactory, Soulmask, StarRupture, V Rising, Valheim, VEIN, Vintage Story and Windrose.

Resetting Your Server

Caution

Use this only as a last resort. If you keep having issues, reach out on Discord or open a support ticket first. We're here to help.

  1. Log in to the GhostCap Panel and select your server.

  2. Create a backup so you can go back if you change your mind.

  3. Open Settings and click Reinstall in the top-right.

  4. Choose how to reset:

    • Format (keep settings): deletes all of your server's files but keeps everything on your Settings page, such as your server name and password. This is the usual choice.
    • Format and reset: deletes all of your server's files and also puts your Settings back to their defaults.

    Neither option touches your Backups.

  5. Click Format + reinstall (or Format + reset + reinstall) and wait for the reinstall to finish.

  6. Click Save & restart to apply your changes.

Your server now starts with a brand new world. If you change your mind, restore the backup from Backups; see Server Backups.
